Aphiémi Healing, Part 12

Lauren Jackson is the daughter of Lisa and Walter Jackson. Lisa, as many of you know, is our sister in the Lord who is a personal banker at Wells Fargo in Victoria, TX. Walter is a longtime pastor, minister of the Gospel, and childhood friend of Chuck Pierce.
Lisa called us a couple weeks back and told us that Lauren had been diagnosed with Leukemia and asked us to pray for her. The doctors were planning a series of tests on Lauren and preparing a treatment regimen. Lauren had an appointment this week for a review of the tests.
This past Sunday we lifted Lauren up before the Lord and decreed the cleansing of her blood and the removal of every trace of Leukemia. On Wednesday Lisa went with Lauren to see the doctor. He gave her a clean bill of health and told her there was not so much as a trace of Leukemia in her blood.
I absolutely love it when we get to see the Lord do this kind of healing! And, folks, we've only just begun!
Let's go a different direction today in this ongoing discussion of aphiémi healing and talk about just what it means to eat faith. OK, now! Don't look cross-eyed at me like that! I know that sounds weird but bear with me as we take a whole different track as we talk about healing.
Hebrews 10:38: Now the just shall live by faith, but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
Despite the fact that this command occurs four times in the Word, God’s people still have a tendency to struggle with it. For many, faith is an intangible. It isn’t something you can get a hold on. It’s almost mystical and ethereal.
The issue is that faith is inherent in Jesus’ character, makeup and personality. It goes with Him. No Word was ever spoken by Him that didn’t come forth out of faith.
Let’s take a minute to define just exactly what faith is and what it consists of.
“Faith is the material substance of those things expected and hoped for, being both title-deed and evidentiary proof of their reality — the absolute knowing that those things we expect exist, even if we can’t see them at the moment using our natural senses.” (Hebrews 11:1, RAC Translation and Amplification #1)
Let's try this one more way: "Now faith is the concrete foundation, the support, the evidentiary proof, the title deed of those things – those material objects – expected and trusted for, the convincing evidence of those things not previously seen in the natural realm." (Hebrews 11:1, RAC Translation and Amplification #2)
Of all the characteristics of the Lord Jesus Christ we’ve heard throughout the years, living and operating by faith is probably the most used, the most misused, the most misunderstood, and the simplest of all to function in – once the revelation of faith unfolds.
We just said that faith is inherent in Jesus' character, makeup and nature. Faith is the very essence of God. It is the very substance of His makeup. He cannot speak with uttering faith.
By the same token, if we are to be restored into His image and likeness that same character of faith must be operable in us.
As the apostle Paul noted, “I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ." (II Corinthians 11:3)
The body of Christ has suffered from the complicating of faith, and there is nothing complicated about it. Faith is rooted, grounded and substantiated in the very essence of God Himself.
1. Faith is both spirit and substance.
2. Faith is activated by the Word (rhema) of God.
3. Faith is the essence of God’s life (zoe).
4. Everything that God speaks comes out of His faith.
5. God cannot speak anything that does not come out of His being by faith.
6. The substance of faith manifests by the Spirit.
7. Paul tells us that Jesus is the brightness of God’s glory and the express image of His person; that as such He “upholds (phero> energko: energizes and sustains) all things by the Word of His power.” The power of His Word, therefore, is His faith!
8. Faith, therefore, is the substance resource. It is like a warehouse of substance material, existing in the dimension of the spirit, from which the “Word of faith” draws upon to create.
9. The Word of Faith can only activate and be put in force by a confession of our mouth spoken in agreement with what the Spirit is saying. Our mouths become the necessary activator — the creator — of that which we expect to see.
10. Faith calls those things into being — whether events, circumstances, material goods or spiritual conditions: whether, healing, deliverance, restoration, financial provision, etc. — that don’t yet appear in this natural realm, but exist as substance in the warehouse of the Spirit so that they move from the spirit-realm into the natural, visible realm. This requires the spoken word.
11. Everything that was ever created began its existence first in the warehouse of faith.
12. Everything that was ever created came into this realm by speaking.
13. In order for Jesus’ faith to be active and energized in us, we must first hear it from Him.
14. Having heard the Word spoken (the rhema) to us by the Lord, the energizing force of faith is now ready to flow through our mouths with the same creative power inherent in the Lord Jesus.
15. Faith pleases God when active in us because we are functioning in the way He created us.
16. Living by faith and speaking faith brings us back to the image and likeness of God in which we were created and permits us to resume our rightful role as co-creators of God’s Will and purposes in the earth.
17. The Kingdom of God enlarges its borders and increases its territory as we speak the Word of faith we’ve heard from the Lord.
Galatians 5:6: For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh (energeo: energized, empowered, made active and effective) by love.
We said a minute ago that the energizing power of God’s Word is faith. John tells us in his first epistle that God is love! He doesn’t just love, He IS love! That means that love and faith work together. No love: no faith. No faith: no love. They are inseparable from each other.
Because God is Love, and Jesus came from the Father, He is Love. For us to eat at the Table of the Lord of Jesus’ flesh, therefore, is to eat of His love.
I John 4:7-13: Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation (hilasmos: reconciler, to cause to expire, expiator, to substitute for) for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
We can say then that the energizing force of faith is love. This is why the apostle James made the following statement in his letter to the body of Christ:
James 2:14-18: What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.
The works that faith produces are the evidence, therefore, of love — agape love. James could easily have said, “I will show you my love by my works.”
If Holy Spirit is the force by which love and faith come into being, it follows that we must be filled to overflowing with Holy Spirit and become channels for Holy Spirit to flow through us with the Love of God.
Ephesians 5:17-20: Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be (being) filled (continually) with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Are you seeing the Table of the Lord in this? The instruction is for us to drink of Holy Spirit continually to the point where we are drunk — where we have too much Holy Spirit. When we have too much Holy Spirit, it has to go somewhere; and that means it bubbles out in the form of demonstrating love.
John 3:34-35: For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God: for He does not give the Spirit by measure (metron: limited degree or measured portion). The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand. (NASB)
The Table of the Lord has not been set before us so that we just barely get enough of the Word, and a little of Holy Spirit to go along with it: it has been spread so that we eat and eat and eat of the Word, so that we eat and eat and eat of the Love of God, so that we eat and eat and eat — and hear in our spirits that rhema that generates the Jesus faith in us to go forth empowered by the Holy Spirit.
The Table of the Lord is the abundant life that Jesus came to give. Jesus said it like this: John 10:10: The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
Everything about the Table of the Lord is abundance. Everything about Jesus is abundance.
1. Jesus love is so abundant that He gave Himself for us.
2. Jesus’ faith is so abundant that He has given us a storehouse of its substance.
3. Holy Spirit has been given to us to facilitate that abundance and to provide us with a means to draw upon the warehouse of faith in Heaven.
Each time we eat at the Table of the Lord we eat the Bread of Life, the Bread of Love, the Bread of Faith, and the Bread of Blessing. Each time we drink of the Cup, we drink to ourselves the empowerment of the Word; and with it, the empowerment of agape Love, and with that, the empowerment of Faith. Holy Spirit is the energizer, the force-employer, the power behind the Word. Thus, Jesus said:
John 6:53 (NASB): Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.
Matthew 26:26-28: And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, (diatheke: devisory will, covenant) which is shed for many for the remission (aphesis-aphiémi: total pardon, complete deliverance, freedom [from]) of sins.
Ephesians 3:17-21 (Amp): May Christ through your faith [actually] dwell — settle down, abide, make His permanent home — in your hearts! May you be rooted deep in love and founded securely on love, That you may have the power and be strong to apprehend and grasp with all the saints (God’s devoted people, the experience of that love) what is the breadth and length and height and depth of it: [That you may really come] to know — practically, through experience for yourselves — the love of Christ, which far surpasses mere knowledge (without experience); that you may be filled (through all your being) unto all the fullness of God — [that is] may have the richest measure of the divine Presence, and become a body wholly filled and flooded with God Himself! Now to Him Who, by {in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think — infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes or dreams — To Him be glory in the church and in Jesus Christ throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen — so be it.
Jesus’ faith — operating in and through us — is the substance by which love is measured. Since faith works by love — and without love our faith is nothing more than a religious word — it therefore follows that the works of which James speaks are the substantive proof, the evidence of Jesus’ love working and operating in us. James might just as easily have written, “Even so faith, if it hath not love, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have love: show me thy faith without thy love, and I will show thee my faith by my love.”
Jesus’ faith always produces substance and evidentiary proofs that everyone could see. Jesus’ faith isn’t something He has to wind up His willpower screw in order to activate. It is inherent in His very nature and makeup. It simply is not possible for Him to function in anything other than faith.
He constantly admonished the disciples — as well as those whom He taught — to “have God’s faith.” It was the Father’s working in Him that clearly proved it. The following example is the clearest demonstration of it.
Mark 11:12-14: And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry: And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find anything thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter forever. And his disciples heard it.
Jesus didn’t have to stop and think about whether He was talking to an “it” or not. It mattered not that He was speaking to a tree and not some person. He knew that the tree must obey Him because it was a created thing which existed only because He first spoke it.
Mark 11:20-24: And in the morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots. And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. (Have God’s faith!) For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
Jesus couldn’t have been clearer. 30 times in the four gospels, Jesus either commanded faith, commended people for their operation of God’s faith, or rebuked people for their lack of faith.
There is no excuse for us as believers who sit and eat at the Table of the Lord to live and demonstrate anything but the faith of God. Every time we eat of the bread, we are eating of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself — and His faith! Every time we drink of the cup, we are drinking of the very life-flow of Holy Spirit — and Holy Spirit ONLY functions and flows with faith — God’s faith!

Aphiémi Healing, Part 11

Jim Christianson spent many years as a rather prominent trial attorney in California until the Enemy tried to take his lights out with multiple bites from a brown recluse spider. Those attacks resulted in the loss of his left leg above his knee through three separate amputations, and the loss of his left eye. Added to that was the amputation of his right leg below the knee due to a freak infection following an accident and a broken ankle. Add to that his having been crushed in a grain elevator and having his body compressed into a space of 17 inches with the result that the upper part of his vertebrae was crushed and three discs disintegrated.
For the last few years, Jim has lived in pain and had to deal with a continuous grinding noise every time he tried to turn his neck. He has been unable to sit up straight, and of course even with prosthetics he finds himself pretty much relegated to a wheel chair.
Two weeks ago, Jim flew here from Ketchikan, Alaska to spend some time with us. During the first Sunday gathering in which he was present, our group was able to lay hands on him and minister healing to him. He experienced instant healing in his back, the return of complete mobility and movement with his neck, and healing of some old football injuries in his shoulders.
Last Sunday, we prayed over his eyesight. The next day he reported that for the first time he was able to open the blind eye partially. A visible pupil is forming in the eye-socket and the tear duct has begun to come alive. He has also been experiencing the sensation of feeling both of his feet (neither of which are visible yet), being able to flex his leg muscles and curl his toes. It is a sign of things coming! What Jim is experiencing is not just restorative but re-creative miracles! Praise God, folks! This is what it is all about! This is what Jesus promises in His Word, and this is what we MUST act upon!
Now, let's pick up another facet today of aphiémi healing and talk about the change of character that takes place when we eat regularly and consistently with faith at the Table of the Lord.
Take a look at some of the principles of change that Paul describes in his letters.
II Corinthians 3:18: But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
Romans 12:1-3: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
As I frequently enjoy doing, let me re-translate this from the original Greek text so as to clarify some of the archaic English used in the KJV.
Romans 12:2 (RAC Translation): Do not fashion yourself after the manner of this world: but be transformed – metamorphosed through obedience to the processes of Holy Spirit – by the renovation and restoration of your mind and thoughts so that you will be able to endure the crucible of testing and be approved by God, showing and demonstrating His goodness, being in total agreement with His Word and His Will, coming into His completeness and maturity.
Eating of the Table of the Lord is designed to produce the change of character, personality and makeup of those who partake of His flesh – His Word – and drink of His Spirit. If we eat at His Table and don’t see demonstrable change in ourselves, we are treating His Table as anaxios, commonplace and ordinary – not discerning the Lord’s Body.
Let's talk for a minute about this Greek word, anaxios. This is could literally be translated: unfit. The context of its usage here is to treat irreverently, and more specifically, as incapable of any spiritual consequence or, lacking in any transformative power or ability.
Now, put that in the picture of Jesus' instruction to the Disciples when He said, "Do this in remembrance of me." That was NOT a suggestion, and it was never intended to be some kind of dead, lifeless, ritual. It is also why Paul made clear in his letter to the Ekklesia in Corinth that because some were treating it ritualistically without any thought of spiritual conveyance, "For this cause many are weak and sickly (diseased and impotent) among you, and many sleep (die prematurely)."
Consider, then, just why Jesus made the following statements:
Matthew 6:25, 31-32: "Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on."
"Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things."
Because the curse of death, disease, sickness, weakness and poverty came upon the human race by virtue of that which was eaten, worrying and fretting over what we eat, what we drink and how we clothe ourselves has become perhaps man’s greatest priority. It stems out of the fear of death. That fear came upon man because of eating the “Knowledge of Evil.”
The Table of the Lord is designed specifically to deliver us from fear – ALL FEAR!
1. Fear drives disease and sickness.
2. Fear drives and compels disobedience to the Word.
3. Fear causes us to compromise our standing in God.
4. Fear prevents us from receiving, taking and possessing all that God has for us.
5. Fear robs us of the Blessing of Abraham.
6. Fear causes us to alter our behavior around family members because of what they might say or how they might react to our liberty in Christ Jesus.
7. Fear is faith gone negative. It has all the power of faith, but it is destructive power – NOT creative power, NOT restorative power, NOT healing power.
We have talked about the following instruction already in this series of Coffee Breaks, but let's revisit Paul's command to Timothy and amplify it a bit.
II Timothy 2:15-17: Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness. And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
And again, here is my translation and amplification from the Greek.
II Timothy 2:15-17 (RAC Translation): Be instantly responsive to the Lord, making yourself available to Him in the midst of the crucible, a tried and tested laborer who has no fear of being examined – one who, by virtue of God’s testing and the time spent in the crucible with Him, knows the proven Word of Truth.
Stand aloof from, and avoid the untested, untried “word” which comes forth from those who would propagate speculation and create their own doctrines. These profane speculations and so-called “words” are empty babblings which will only serve to advance ungodliness;
And those who spread these doctrines will only yield a gangrene pasture – a source of poison to those who ingest their “word”…..
Eating at the Table of the Lord produces the Word in us – that change and transformation which enables us to endure trial, testing, persecution – all of which work to produce the hardness and strength of character that result from the testing (in the midst of the crucible) when we resist the world.
Notice Paul's last statement (above) in the portion of his letter to Timothy: “And those who spread these doctrines will only yield a gangrene pasture – a source of poison to those who ingest their “word”…..
The poison that comes into our spirits from eating of these speculative doctrines predicated on the untested and untried Word not only contaminates our spirits but also results in physical sickness, decay and even death. Let me take a minute to give you some examples.
Hyper-grace: This is a teaching which blows the concept of God's grace totally out of proportion. Perhaps the biggest crime -- and spiritual poison -- that comes from eating of this doctrine is that it removes the need for the crucible and the testing of the Word.
Ultimate Reconciliation: This is a doctrine straight out of Hell. It is as damnable a heresy as has ever contaminated the body of Christ! It essentially states that there is no such thing as an eternal judgment in Hell; that "a loving God would never keep people in torment for eternity"; and/or that "God would never destroy Lucifer/Satan and subject him to everlasting torment in fire"; and, finally, that "God, in an act of love, will ultimately reconcile Satan to Himself, and everyone -- even those who are in Hell for a time -- will be reconciled to Himself in a final act of salvation."
No Hell: A companion doctrine to that of ultimate reconciliation, this one teaches that Hell is not a place of everlasting torment or destruction and that translators have really screwed up by comingling the concepts of Gehenna, Hades and Sheol (the Hebrew and Greek terms that occur in the original texts).
Perhaps someday I can take the time to explore these heresies in greater detail and explain why so many folks have fallen into such error. The point is that each of these teachings essentially does away with the need for God's people to endure trial, testing, fire, persecution, etc.: in other words, the necessity of the Word being tested in us in the midst of the crucible.
John deals with the need for transformation and testing like this (and again this is my translation and amplification):
John 1:12-13 (RAC Translation): But as many as believed in and responded to Him, to them He gave the authority and ability to become – and be transformed into – begotten children of God, specifically to those who entrust their future existence and well-being by faith in His name, rank, position, character, personality and being; who were begotten, not of flesh and blood, nor because human flesh determined it by its own decision, nor because the mind and intellect of man seized upon it and willed it into existence, but by God as a sovereign act of His Will and determination.
Change and transformation begins at the Table of the Lord, but there is a process of change that goes like this:
1. Change is first initiated because we hear the call and the drawing of Holy Spirit within our beings. Change requires a response of obedience predicated on believing His Word and the voice of His Spirit.
2. Our character and nature begin a process of transformation -- a metamorphosis, if you please -- so that we as spiritual beings can be joined to Him.
3. No act of our flesh is involved in this process.
4. We are begotten by the Spirit in a genetic sense of the word. There is a change of our DNA.
5. Neither strong personality, nor an intellectual decision to become “One” with Him play the slightest part in any transformation which takes place in our life.
6. We cannot “will” ourselves to become a part of the Bride, nor can we “choose” by arbitrary decision or mental acquiescence to participate in anything which the Lord is doing in us and in His people.
7. Everything which occurs as a part of the developmental processes initiated by Jesus Christ through His death and resurrection, does so because Father first spoke it, willed it so, and -- by and through His Spirit -- called those who are undergoing the processes.
8. Everything that Father wills for us and draws us toward must be put to the test so that we can join -- not simply legally, but experientially -- the Lord Jesus Christ as joint-overcomers at the right hand of the Throne of God. (see Revelation 3:21)
Am I making sense? Are you grasping the picture? Do you see why the Word so emphasizes the need for our change of character?
It is no exaggeration to say that our healing and continued health hangs on this change of character and metamorphosis from the old sinful creation to the new. Minus this change, even if we receive healing from some sickness or affliction at the moment, we are candidates for that same sickness or disease to return. This is true simply because the change in us that effects the transformation of our DNA (spiritually and physically) must occur if we are to be free of the sin-and-curse-contaminated DNA associated with our old creation.
Whewww!!! That was a mouthful, wasn't it? Anyway, you get the picture! Once again, the forgiveness and remittance -- aphiémi, if you will -- of our past sins, errors, and blunders, whether deliberate or unintended, plays into our healing and continued health.
Let's wrap up today with something that Paul writes to the Philippians:

Aphiémi Healing, Part 10

As we get ready to enter the year 2014 on our Gregorian Calendars, it is important to remember that we have already entered the year 5774 on the Hebrew Calendar. And rather than refer to it as the Hebrew Calendar, we will simply call it God's Calendar! That said, we are in the Year of the Open Door! An entrance is being provided for God's people into a realm of His presence that most Christians only dream about. The feast that the Lord has set before us at His Table is beyond anything your natural mind can comprehend! Ready?
John 6:53-58: Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live forever.
What Jesus did by instructing us to eat of Him was to reveal a process that the world simply cannot get a hold of. This is a spiritual picture and it is a spiritual reality. It defies human reasoning, and as a result many believers fail to grasp the significance of what we have available with Christ in us.
Those of you familiar with Jesse Duplantis' testimony of being in Heaven will remember the experience when he saw Jesus merging into the father and then coming back out. In the realm of the Spirit the physical restrictions associated with corporeal (physical) existence simply vanish. In the realm of the Spirit, none of the laws of physics apply. There is no time in the Spirit, and there is no space. If you’ll pardon the Sci-fi illustration, this is “interdimensional living.”
[It is one of the reasons why so many Christians have gotten blindsided by the Enemy. They think that evil spirits cannot inhabit their bodies -- especially if they have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior. What they fail to understand is that our bodies have been specifically designed by God in the first place as "spirit containers." That's a discussion I'd like to pursue, but this isn't particularly the time or place I want to get into that. We can consider that aspect of our makeup in a later discussion.]
Jesus tells us that if we eat and drink of Him, we are in Him and He is in us. We have been merged together. The apostle Paul explained it like this:
II Corinthians 5:17-19: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
The picture that Paul draws is that not only was Jesus in Father, but that Father came to earth IN JESUS! This was a real conundrum for Philip. He couldn’t figure things out. Jesus was telling the disciples that He was getting ready to leave and prepare a place for them in His Father’s house. Philip said to Jesus (and I’m paraphrasing), “Lord, we’ll understand things a whole lot better if you’ll show us the Father.
John 14:9-11: Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
The body of Christ still doesn’t grasp this. We don’t really grasp it yet. We have a concept and perhaps an image of it in our minds but lack the revelation. If we can receive this revelation and allow it to permeate our beings, it will radically change how we think, how we live and how we function day-to-day.
This is why and how Jesus could follow what He said to Philip with this:
John 14:12-14: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
Understand? The revelation of this is that whenever we ask anything of Father in the name of Jesus, we are asking Father just as if Jesus were doing it. If He is in us, then Jesus is making the request.
This is how the onoma of the Lord works in us, through us, with us, around us. His onoma is His character, His makeup, the very essence of who He is! With His onoma comes His authority, His power — AND — His relationship with Father. Pretty simple isn’t it? We’ve so complicated this that we’ve lost sight of who and what Jesus is in us. It isn’t just Him! It is Father, as well.
John describes it like this:
I John 2:24-29 (NASB): "As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life. These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you. As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming."
If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him. This is how we receive revelation. Jesus had said that if He left He would send another “comforter” — the Paraklete — Holy Spirit. Now, put all that together and what do you have? We live in Jesus Christ. We live because of His sacrifice. We live because we eat and drink of Him.
But there’s more!
Because we eat and drink of Jesus, we also eat and drink of Father. Therefore, Father is in us. Both Jesus AND Father live in us. But still there’s more!
Jesus had said He was sending Holy Spirit. Here’s how He put it:
John 14:16-21: "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him."
Jesus was saying that despite the fact that He was departing from the earth in physical form, He was still in us, and so was Father. But more than that, He was sending Holy Spirit to be with us.
And still there was more! Jesus promised that He — Holy Spirit — would also be in us! This is why He said to the disciples,
"And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high."
The “power from on high” was Holy Spirit — the force that energized the life and Word of Jesus Christ — and Father — in us.
When John began His Gospel, he wrote,
John 1:1-4, 12-14: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
"But as many as received him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."
Jesus was the Word made flesh. We become the Word made flesh when we confess with our mouths the Lord Jesus Christ. We become the Word made flesh when we — with Christ in us — speak the Word that He spoke, and speak it in agreement with Him and the Father. When we speak the Word in agreement with Him, it becomes rhema! It has the force within it that keeps the universe together!
Holy Spirit — dwelling with us and in us — energizes and empowers that Word so that it has the same creative force that it had when Jesus spoke it. What needs we have, we ask Father for in the onoma of Jesus. Father — in Jesus — enacts those needs for us by means of the Holy Spirit who is both with us and in us.
Are you beginning to grasp this picture? Are you getting the significance of “Christ in us, the hope of Glory”? The apostle Paul expressed it like this when he was writing to the Ekklesia in Colosse:
Colossians 1:26-27: "Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory."
This is a revelation — the concept of Christ in us. With that revelation comes the understanding that it is not only Jesus, the Son with His anointing, but it is Father in us as well. More than that, we have Holy Spirit dwelling in us, filling us and permeating us with God’s presence! With Holy Spirit indwelling us as the power-generating force that gives life to the Word (who is Jesus), we become Jesus to the world around us.
The light that radiated from Him was that same light that exploded into being when He spoke those first words of Creation, “Light be!” That’s the light that dwells in us when we are in the Anointed One and His anointing — and He is in us!
John 8:12: "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
John 9:4-5: "I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
And Jesus commanded us to duplicate that by being in Him.
Matthew 5:14-16: "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
The parallel that Jesus is drawing in this statement is that He didn’t light us up with His presence just to stick us under a bushel and hide us from the rest of the world. He illuminated us with Himself so that Father would receive the Glory.
Matthew 10:7-8: "And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give."
We haven’t become Jesus to the world to do anything less than Jesus did. He healed the sick. He raised the dead. He cleansed the lepers. He cast out evil spirits with His Word. He broke the chains that held people captive. He restored crushed spirits. And all of the power and authority to accomplish everything that Jesus did has been invested in us. That’s why Jesus made a point of stating that ALL authority was His, and His to dispense.
Matthew 28:18-20: And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power (exousia—authority) is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
ALL POWER — ALL AUTHORITY! Get it? That’s what resides in us by virtue of the Father being in the Son, the Son being in us, Holy Spirit being with us, in us and filling us ….. AND … us in Jesus!
Let’s try this again, expressing it just a bit differently.
Father and Son merge with one another. You see one — you see the other. Holy Spirit is the energizing power — the same power that upholds everything in the universe — of God the Father and God the Son. And that’s the same power that resides in us. And that’s the same power that we reside in. So how come we don’t experience this 24 hours a day?
The answer is simple enough. If we don’t see it, we don’t believe it. If we don’t believe it, we can’t have it experientially. And herein lies the crux of this issue: seeing this authority and power resident within us! The problem is that we seek for signs or evidence with our natural eyes rather than the eyes of Holy Spirit.
George Robinson has a rather unique way of ministering healing to folks. He takes them "to the bosom of Father" where there is no sickness, no disease, no infirmity, no organ failure -- in other words, where there is nothing broken and nothing missing!
That's the key, folks! If we can see ourselves in Father; if we can see ourselves in Christ; if we can see ourselves in the anointing of The Anointed One, there is absolutely NOTHING that Jesus has paid for on our behalf that we cannot have!!
